The Journal is a notebook the Protagonist carries with him. It can be accessed via the J key.
The Journal consists of eight (8) different tabs along the sides (Me, Journal, Notes, Locations, People, Creatures, Keys, and Quest Items). Only Me, Journal, Notes, Keys, and Quest items are accessible, with the rest most likely being in development.
The Me tab shows what Skills the player has picked, both positive and negative.
The Journal tab shows you important parts of conversations and events.

The Notes tab shows what important items you've picked up through out the game. You can also view them by clicking on the names.
The Keys tab shows what keys you've collected.
The Quest Items currently shows nothing.
