Darkwood Wiki
This page is about the creature named Savage. For other uses, see Savage (disambiguation).

The Savage is a humanoid creature in Darkwood. A number of Savages are peaceful in the Dry Meadow while in subsequent biomes, they are mostly passive.

Savages were once normal humans before losing their minds to an unknown illness, which also caused them to be severely speech-impaired. They can be discerned by the short guttural sounds they occasionally make. They also have sickly, filthy-looking grayish pale skin and muddy, feral-looking body. Savages often gather in groups of two or more.

Though sharing the same in-game name, four types of Savage exist throughout Darkwood, each with its unique appearance, behavior, and stats.

Trivia[]

  • Savages are sometimes referred to as "rednecks" by the dev team in the changelogs and the game files.
  • There are fallen trees with bite marks that can be found scattered throughout the forest. A Savage can be seen chewing on a tree inside the Savage Lair. It is implied that Savages also have the Appetite ability.
  • The Doctor, if spared, could be found eating a tree branch in chapter 2, seemingly succumbing to the Plague. It is possible for him to be mistaken for a Savage and be accidentally killed by a trigger-happy player.
  • Savages have long been mistaken for being aggressive creatures due to their rather quick change in behavior. They are in fact passive by nature and will not engage on sight as long as a certain distance is immediately kept from them after being seen.
