The Shell is a crafting material in Darkwood. They are uncommon loot and have limited usage overall.

Obtaining[]

Shells can most certainly be obtained from bugs residing around holes commonly located in Bug Nests or preset locations and oftentimes hideouts at night. A single Shell can be looted off of a dead bug.

Usage[]

Crafting[]

Shells are purely used for crafting the Light armor, which requires only one Shell and the Workbench at level 5 to craft.

Trading[]

Having a decent value of 20 and being stackable to 3 units, Shells can be saved up and sold to vendors totaling 60 Reputation per stack. However, it is slightly more profitable to craft the Light armor and sell it for 50 Rep, yielding 2 Rep in profit as the 2 Rags cost 28 Rep in total and the Shell is worth 20.

If the inventory room factor is taken into account, then it is actually a lot more profitable to sell Shells since Light armors cannot stack. Plus, Shells become increasingly more common in later stages of the game as nightly hideout infestations may occur frequently. Hence, selling Shells in stacks of 3 for each empty slot of inventory yields 10 Rep more in profit than selling one piece of Light armor for an empty inventory slot, 60 versus 50.

Trivia[]

  • The crafting option for the Light armor was removed in an earlier version but has been reintroduced in Alpha 7.
  • Prior to the full release, Shells could be bought from The Three for 40 Reputation.
  • The Shell is referred to by its more scientific name "chitin" within the game files.
