The Shiny Stone is a valuable trade item. A number of them may be found occasionally scattered about all biomes.

Shiny Stones are invisible unless hit with a light source other than natural daylight, in which case they produce a very noticeable, bright reflection. One can use a light source such as a Flashlight to illuminate Shiny Stones at a distance. A Lantern works best, due to its radial light. Alternatively, the player can spot them in a small radius around him at all times, which can also be used to spot Shiny Stones close by.

In the Forest Village lies the Village Shrine, from which a Shiny Stone can be obtained by removal. Furthermore, it appears that, within a radius of approximately 20m around a Shrine, a Shiny Stone can always be found. The implication is that originally every Shrine used to have a Shiny Stone attached to it, but over the course of time, the stones have fallen out of their shrines to the surroundings.

In the Burn Them All ending, a lot of Shiny Stones can be found lying on the ground leading to The Being, though at this point in the game they serve very little purpose.

Once picked up, Shiny Stones cannot be dropped again as shiny markers and instead appear like all other dropped items, a small bag.

The only purpose of Shiny Stones after being picked up is to be sold to the vendors for 130 Reputation each.

In July 2023, in a Reddit AMA, Acid Wizard strongly implied that the shiny stones are shards that rained down on the Being's arrival ("They are remnants from the day of the transformed forest's birth" - Artur), likely thrown up into the air and scattered through the woods when the meteor impacted the ground. This is further suggested by the bright light in the painting seemingly depicting the Being's arrival.
